What is the MBPA? What is the Marla Bay GID? |
It is useful to understand that there are TWO organizations which provide services to the residents and owners of the Marla Bay Residential Area. Each has distinctly different responsibilities
Marla Bay Protective Association (MBPA)
- Description: Established in 1946, the MBPA is a voluntary organization whose Board of Directors are elected by the general membership at an annual meeting; The purpose of the MBPA, as stated in the MBPA Articles of Incorporation, is to “.. protect, safeguard, and preserve all the common or mutual property rights and interests of the owners of real property who are now, or shall become members of this corporation..”
- Membership: Voluntary and open to any homeowner (or their resident representative)
- Current Annual Membership Fee: $200 (calendar year) per Marla Bay property owned; Membership fee checks can be sent to: MBPA, P.O. Box 543, Zephyr Cove, NV 89448
- Membership Benefits and MBPA Responsibilities: Joining the MBPA includes such benefits as (but not limited to)
- Ability to annually apply for summer use of a buoy in the MBPA Buoy field
- Ability to annually apply for use of MBPA amenities (e.g. seasonally available kayak rack, etc.)
- Participation in MBPA-sponsored community activities
- Ability to vote on MBPA community issues
- MBPA Membership fees cover common community expenses like (but not limited to):
- Security Detail at the entrance to Marla Bay during busy holidays
- Beach Cleanup from Memorial Day to Labor Day
- Community Garbage can service during the summer months at the north and south beach access points
- Dog Mitts at beach access points
- MBPA Website platform subscription fee
- Insurance and other administrative and legal costs

Marla Bay General Improvement District (GID)
- Description: The purpose of the General Improvement District is to provide Municipal type services to an area which needs them (NRS 318). The Board of Trustees is responsible for improvements and maintenance of certain common infrastructures in the Marla Bay unincorporated residential area; Funding is provided by the State of Nevada General Tax Fund
- Membership:The five Board Members of the General Improvement District are elected representatives, serve a four year term, and must be full-time residents.
- Responsibilities of the GID: Improvement and maintenance of certain common infrastructure including (but not limited to):
- Streets and pathways
- Curbs and gutters
- Storm drainage.
- Planters and Gardens
- Street Lighting
- Fencing and Gates
- Fire Prevention
- Mosquito and Pest Abatement
